Creamy, thick and delicious as is the way with smoothies, this Red Cherry and Cocoa Smoothie is filled to the brim with nutrition. My only complaint is that smoothies for breakfast really don’t fill me up in the same way, say scrambled eggs do first thing in the morning. Upping the protein content however, seems to help solve the problem. Adding a very healthy scoop of protein powder, a tablespoon of hemp seeds, or a teaspoon of almond butter are all good options. I really love the combination of cherries with a little cocoa, it’s produces such a lovely deep satisfying flavor. As with all smoothie recipes you can play around with them to your heart’s content – don’t like cherries – try raspberries:) I also find this is a great pick me up in the mid afternoon or when I’m craving something sweet.
- 1 cup frozen cherries
- ½ frozen (or non frozen banana)
- ¼ avocado
- ½ tablespoon cacoa
- 1 large heaping scoop of good quality protein powder
- ½ tablespoon hemp seeds (optional)
- 1 teaspoon almond butter
- 8 oz almond milk
- Place all the ingredients in a high speed blender and blitz until smooth and creamy.
I also find this is a great pick me up in the mid afternoon or when I’m craving something sweet. Soooo much better for you than a packet of gummy bears! I hope you love it as much as I do:)
